REPORT: Panthers Attempted To Trade For 2 Of The NFL’s Best WRs Ahead Of Deadline
The Carolina Panthers reportedly tried landing two notable big-named wide receivers ahead of the Oct. 31 trade deadline.
According to ESPN’s David Newton, the Panthers inquired about Las Vegas Raiders Pro Bowler Davante Adams and Cincinnati Bengals star Tee Higgins, but the two AFC clubs weren’t interested in a trade:
“The Panthers understand that. They went after the Bengals’ Higgins and elite receiver Davante Adams of the Las Vegas Raiders before the trade deadline, according to an NFL front office source with knowledge of discussions, but neither team was willing to deal.”
Newton added that Carolina also sought star pass-rusher Montez Sweat from the Washington Commanders, but he wound up getting sent to the Chicago Bears.
Offseason free agent signing Adam Thielen has been excellent with Bryce Young, racking up 68 catches for 652 yards and four touchdowns. But Carolina hasn’t had anyone step up outside of Thielen, as No. 2 receiver D.J. Chark has a mere 229 receiving yards.
It’s clear that the Panthers must upgrade the supporting cast around Young in the upcoming offseason. For what it’s worth, Higgins is in the final year of his contract and could be available to Carolina in free agency.
