Texas A&M is in need of a head coach after firing Jimbo Fisher this week and they’re reported to have reached out to one of the most exciting NFL coaches about their vacancy.

According to CBS Sports, the program has contacted Detroit Lions HC Dan Campbell with regards to the job amid their search.

Campbell, who was born in Clifton, Texas, played as a tight end, wide receiver, and on special teams during his four years with the Aggies. It makes sense that they would consider him, especially considering that he’s now one of the hottest coaches in the league.

The 47-year-old coached the Lions to a 9-8 record last season, taking them to the brink of the playoffs. And they do appear postseason-bound this term at 7-2 midway through the current campaign.

CBS Sports reports that he isn’t a candidate as he has already expressed disinterest.

“Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell is not expected to be a candidate for the Texas A&M vacancy, sources told CBS Sports on Tuesday. After backchannel communications were initiated by the Aggies, it was made clear that Campbell would be staying in the NFL with the Lions.”

Campbell is not the only coach to refect Texas A&M’s advances in the wake of Fisher’s termination, with Oregon’s Dan Lanning and multiple others declining the opportunity.
