Chris Jones reached his sack incentive in the Kansas City Chiefs’ regular season finale, a playoff tuneup, against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

There wasn’t a bunch of Chiefs starters that played on that day and it includd Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was ruled out, but it wasn’t because the team made the decision. Head coach Andy Reid told Ed Easton of USA Today that it was Kelce’s decision to sit out.

“He is a humble, humble guy,” Reid said. “It’s different because of the financial part of it, with Chris [Jones]. [Kelce] didn’t want to be selfish or come across as selfish. All the players want him to play, but he just goes, ‘You know what? I don’t like the way it feels.’”

“He’s not into that. He chose not to play, and I completely understand it. But that’s him. Most guys would have gone out and probably done it, but he said, ‘I’ve got a lot of records on this one here; I’m not going to do it this way.’”

Travis Kelce had recorded at least 1,000 receiving yards in the past seven seasons.

Travis Kelce sat out in Week 18 against the Chargers despite needing just 16 yards to reach the 1,000 mark for the eighth straight season.

With the Chiefs locked into the third seed, Kansas City did not need to play any important starters before their wild-card game against the Miami Dolphins at Arrowhead Stadium.

Even without Kelce and Mahomes, the Chiefs beat the Chargers 13-12 to end the season with an 11-6 record.

Not to mention, with his age, it’s nice to have a week out to recover from any ailments he might have going on. This is one of the rare times when the Chiefs do not have the number one seed and won’t have a week off before their playoff matchup.
