Confidence is an essential tool in a fighter’s arsenal. And when it comes to confidence, Ian Garry has it in spades. The Irish welterweight sensation has recently set his sights on a formidable opponent: the undefeated welterweight with a 100% finish rate, Shavkat Rakhmonov.

Garry is known for his cautious style and quick wit and isn’t just looking for a fight. He is aiming to make history. The 26-year-old boldly declared his intention to take on Rakhmonov at the end of the year. “December 2024 Undefeated vs. Undefeated. Let’s make this happen @shavkatrakhmonov94”

‘The Future’ wants to be the first to end Rakhmonov’s impressive unbeaten streak. Both these fighters are coming off wins in their respective fights. Recently, Garry outpointed Michael Page at UFC 303. Rakhmonov hasn’t seen the Octagon since UFC 296, where he dominated Stephen Thompson and won via submission.

Both fighters are welterweight prodigies. If it happens, the matchup would be a clash of rising stars. And it will be a kind of fight that makes matchmakers salivate and fans reach out for their wallets. Garry vs. Rakhmonov could be a glimpse into the future champion of the welterweight division.

Shavkat Rakhmonov Reminds Ian Garry Of Their Past Interaction

Memories can be short, and egos large in MMA, as Rakhmonov’s comments about fellow welterweight Garry showcase. These two rising stars in the UFC’s welterweight division have started their verbal exchange, with the Kazakh phenom reminding the Irish fighter about their past interaction.

Fresh off his victory at UFC 303, Ian Garry called out Rakhmonov for the first time. The undefeated Irishman expressed confidence in his ability to hand Rakhmonov his first loss. Bold words from a daring fighter, indeed. But Rakhmonov, never one to back down from a challenge, had a swift response. He took to social media with a message that packed quite a punch.

“Looks like Ian forgot what happened during those training sessions. I don’t mind reminding him in the future.” Rakhmonov quipped on X.

The Nomad’s statement showcased that the two had trained together at Kill Cliff FC some time ago. This exchange highlights the complex relationships in the MMA world. Fighters often train together and then find themselves on opposite sides of the octagon. If they fight, unfortunately, one of these fighters would have to lose his ‘zero’ in search of glory.
