Doc Rivers Dubs Kevin Garnett As The Greatest “Superstar Role Player Ever”
Kevin Garnett may have retired from the NBA, but his legacy continues to inspire the next generation of players. The former NBA star, who had a successful career playing for teams like the Minnesota Timberwolves, Boston Celtics, and Brooklyn Nets, remains a highly respected figure in the basketball world.
During a recent press conference, Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers shared his admiration for Garnett when asked about young player Dereck Lively II looking up to him. Rivers praised his energy and dedication to the game.
“Comparison-wise, he’s not a bad guy to compare to. Tenacious, high energy, extremely high basketball IQ. I label him [Garnett] as the best superstar role player ever. Because he was a superstar, but he still always bought into a role and always put the team first. Great guy to buy into and follow,” Rivers said.
Rivers coached Garnett during their time with the Celtics after Garnett was traded to the Celtics in the summer of 2007. Under Rivers’ guidance, Garnett led the Celtics to an NBA championship in 2008.

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid recently made headlines after expressing that he no longer plans to play in back-to-back games. During an episode of the ‘Ticket & The Truth’ show, Garnett called out Embiid for his stance, sharing the responsibility that comes with being an NBA player.
“82 games, man. This is what the f*****g job calls for! You’re not practicing. You don’t play in the summer. I can understand if you’re engaging in summertime playground ball, participating in the Olympics, then heading into training camp. You guys have 30 days of two-a-days; that’s when you get rest,” Garnett said.
Many former and current NBA players like Garnett believe that playing a full 82-game season is part of the commitment required from top players in the league. Throughout his career, Garnett always showcased his utmost commitment to all the teams he played.
