Taking a short-notice fight in the UFC instantly boosts a fighter’s respect, payday, and stock. Dan Ige proved that by accepting a bout against Diego Lopes with just two hours’ notice, saving the event. Now, with Dan Hooker out due to injury, Justin Gaethje found himself without an opponent. He recently named fighters who turned down the fight, including Dustin Poirier, who quickly responded to clear up and refute the claim.

Gaethje acknowledged the difficulties in finding an opponent, noting that Arman Tsarukyan, Charles Oliveira, Max Holloway, Dustin Poirier, and Renato Moicano all declined the fight. In the end, Rafael Fiziev ultimately stepped up, traveling across the world for the opportunity.

In response, Poirier clarified that he had reached out about the fight and directed fans to UFC matchmaker Hunter Campbell for confirmation, while also expressing respect for both Gaethje and Fiziev. DP said, “I’m the one who reached out to them when I read the news. Ask hunter, all respect to you and fizeav, looking forward to this one again.”

While Poirier claims he never got the call and didn’t turn the fight down, it’s unclear why he didn’t end up facing Gaethje. Despite that, Gaethje vs. Fiziev at UFC 313 still looks like a solid matchup. With Fiziev stepping up on short notice, it’ll be interesting to see how this fight plays out and whether Gaethje can handle another elite striker in the Octagon.

Dustin Poirier Slams Michael Chandler Calling Him Cheater

Dustin Poirier recently threw some serious shade at Michael Chandler, calling him fake. He recalled how Chandler used to show respect back when he was in Bellator, but once he joined the UFC, it all flipped to challenges and trash talk. Poirier’s ready for a fight, saying Chandler’s a cheater and not the person he seems to be. With all the bad blood, it looks like a showdown between them could be brewing.

Even though Poirier didn’t land the Gaethje fight, it’ll be interesting to see if he faces ‘Iron Chandler’ after Chandler’s upcoming fight with Pimblett. With the growing tension between Poirier and Chandler, their showdown could be the next big thing in the UFC if Chandler comes out of his fight with Pimblett ready to go.
