MLB Power Rankings: All 30 MLB Teams Ranked From Worst To First For Opening Week
The 2025 MLB season is opening up, and we can’t wait to see who’ll emerge on top as the 2025 World Series Champions in October. However, we have a long way to go before we get there. In the meantime, each MLB team must fight through the 162-game schedule.
Here are your MLB Power Rankings before the start of the 2025 season.
Who are the top teams in the MLB heading into the 2025 season?
30. Chicago White Sox

Sorry, White Sox fans. After losing 121 games in 2024, the White Sox need a lot to go right for a much better 2025 season. Martín Pérez had a good Spring Training, but Luis Robert Jr. and Andrew Vaughn could be traded if they go on a hot streak. The White Sox need to continue developing their young prospects in the Minor Leagues if they want to return to relevancy.
29. Colorado Rockies

Kris Bryant and Ryan McMahon anchor a Rockies team that struggled in 2024. However, the Rockies have young talent like Jordan Beck, Ezequiel Tovar, Michael Toglia, and Brenton Doyle to continue stepping up. Pitching has been a problem for the Rockies due to Coors Field’s location in altitude, and they have to continue developing their young pitchers.
28. Miami Marlins

The Marlins have a young roster with Ryan Weathers, Connor Norby, Otto Lopez, and Jesús Sánchez, along with veterans Sandy Alcantara and Max Meyer. However, Alcantara could be traded in the season to a title contender. Luckily, Matt Mervis has had a very good spring and could make some noise in the regular season.
27. Washington Nationals

The Nationals had a painful 2024 MLB season. However, Dylan Crews and James Wood shined during Spring training. The Nationals 2025 season will revolve around Wood and Crews hitting along with DJ Herz, Jake Irvin, and Mitchell Parker; stepping up on the pitcher mound could potentially give Washington the juice they need to make a Wildcard Series.
26. Pittsburgh Pirates

Paul Skenes is making a name for himself with 23 strikeouts in five starts and has a 2-0 record in Spring Training. The Pirates re-signed Andrew McCutchen, traded for Spencer Horwitz (who had wrist surgery in February), and signed veterans Tommy Pham and Adam Frazier to the roster. The Pirates need their young hitters to step up in the regular season.
25. Athletics

The Athletics built a young rotation during their final year in Oakland with Shea Langeliers, JJ Bleday, Zack Gelof, and Jacob Wilson. 2024 All-Star Mason Miller is getting help with Luis Severino joining the pitching rotation, while Brent Rooker and Lawrence Butler will continue to provide the fireworks for the team. The postseason odds are against the A’s, but they could surprise many. We’ll just have to find out.
24. Los Angeles Angels

The Angels fell apart in 2024 and finished the year with 99 losses. However, they traded for Jorge Soler and signed Travis d’Arnaud, Kyle Hendricks, and Yusei Kikuchi. Future Hall of Famer Mike Trout is back and needs to stay healthy, while young talent like Zach Neto, José Soriano, and Logan O’Hoppe should make things interesting in Anaheim.
23. St. Louis Cardinals

The Cardinals’ roster is filled with young talent, including Michael McGreevy, Pedro Pagés, and Masyn Winn. The team will be led by Nolan Arenado, even though they couldn’t trade him out of town. The Cardinals will have an interesting 2025 MLB season as they go through a transition of watching their young talent conquer the mound.
22. Cincinnati Reds

Things in Southwest Ohio should improve under manager Terry Francona. Elly De La Cruz has the making to become a superstar along with Hunter Greene, Tyler Stephenson, and Matt McLain. However, the Reds need to keep the roster healthy by the time clinching a spot in the postseason arrives.
21. San Francisco Giants

Newly acquired veterans Justin Verlander and Robby Ray looked good in the Cactus League, and signing Willy Adames helps, but losing Blake Snell and Michael Conforto to the Dodgers will be felt for a while. The Giants need Tyler Fitzgerald, Jung-Hoo Lee, and re-signed Matt Chapman to continue stepping up.
20. Toronto Blue Jays

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette may be on the Blue Jays for the last time, as both will be free agents in 2026 and must do all they can to get the team back into the postseason. The Jays signed veterans Max Scherzer and Jeff Hoffman, but will it be enough? On top of that, Erik Swanson will probably be out for most of April with an elbow injury.
19. Kansas City Royals

The Royals may not have Jac Caglianone on the opening-day roster, but they still have Bobby Witt Jr., Seth Lugo, and Vinnie Pasquantino in the lineup, and signed Carlos Estévez in the MLB offseason. The Royals can potentially capture the AL Central with an improved roster.
18. Tampa Bay Rays

The Rays will play their regular season at George Steinbrenner Field due to Hurricane Milton damaging Tropicana Field. Junior Caminero is coming to the rotation for a full season, hopefully joining an offense led by Yandy Diaz, Josh Lowe, and Brandon Lowe. The Rays will not have Shane McClanahan open the season due to a triceps injury.
17. Cleveland Guardians

The Guardians advanced to the ALCS in 2024 but lost to the Yankees in five games. Gavin Williams has shined during Spring Training, but Josh Naylor and Andrés Giménez are gone. Veterans John Means and Paul Sewald must step up in their new team, while Jose Ramirez and Emmanuel Chase are still All-Star-level talent.
16. Minnesota Twins

The Twins had a rough finish to the 2024 season and missed the postseason. Byron Buxton, Carlos Correa, and Royce Lewis (who strained his hamstring) need to stay healthy for a chance at the postseason. The Twins have a talented roster, but their window of opportunity is slowly closing. Matt Wallner, Trevor Larnach, and Brooks Lee must step up in 2025.
15. Milwaukee Brewers

After saying goodbye to Willy Adames in free agency and trading away Devin Williams, the Brewers added Nestor Cortés Jr. via trade. William Contreas is one of the best catchers in the Majors, and Jackson Chourio has been playing phenomenally. If the Brewers keep the roster healthy, they have the potential for a postseason run.
14. Detroit Tigers

The Tigers traded away Jack Flaherty to the Dodgers in 2024 and then re-signed him in 2025, pairing him with AL Cy Young Winner Tarik Skubal. Jackon Jobe made the opening-day roster, making for a powerful pitching rotation. The Tigers had a good run in the 2024 MLB postseason and are looking to replicate that and potentially expand on it.
13. San Diego Padres

Tanner Scott and Jurickson Profar are gone. Now, what should we do? The Padres brought in Nick Pivetta, who struck out five Rangers in Spring Training while adding veteran Jason Heyward and Connor Joe to the roster. Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado, and Jackson Merrill are elite hitters, but their talents may not be enough to slow the Dodgers down.
12. Seattle Mariners

The Mariners have a good roster with Julio Rodriguez, Randy Arozarena, and Cal Raleigh, but George Kirby will likely be out for a month recovering from shoulder inflammation. However, Jurrangelo Cijntje’s switch-pitching with both arms is encouraging for the Mariners, but will he be ready for the Majors? We’ll just have to see.
11. Houston Astros

The Astros have finished first in the AL West for four straight seasons. Alex Bregman and Kyler Tucker are gone, but Jose Altuve, Yordan Alverez, and Jeremy Peña, who had excellent Spring Training, remain. If all goes well, the Astros will be a serious contender.
10. Chicago Cubs

Yes, getting swept by the Dodgers in the Japan Series stings. However, trading for Kyle Tucker helped this team, which lacked star power in 2024. If Tucker exceeds expectations in Chicago, the Cubs can potentially make the MLB postseason.
9. Texas Rangers

Kumar Rocker’s struggle with pitching in Spring Training raises an eyebrow of concern for the Rangers. Jacob deGrom needs a healthy season after recovering from Tommy John surgery. Meanwhile, Evan Carter, Adolis Garcia, and Jonah Helm must rebound after having an off 2024.
8. Arizona Diamondbacks

Jordan Montgomery’s struggles at the beginning of Spring Training should be signs of concern. However, the D-Backs’ trade with the Guardians for Josh Naylor should bolster the infield and offensive hitting, as the team just missed the postseason in 2024. Corbin Burnes and Justin Martinez should also have productive seasons in the desert.
7. Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox may have finished in third place in the AL East, but they’ve improved by adding Alex Bregman to the rotation. Trevor Story looked healthy and also performed well during Spring Training. The Red Sox will be a tough MLB team heading into the regular season.
6. New York Mets

Adding Juan Soto to the rotation increased the Mets’ odds of winning the World Series, and re-signing Pete Alonso and Sean Manaea also helped. Francisco Álvarez should step up nicely when he returns to the lineup, and no one should count Francisco Lindor or Pete Alonso out as power hitters.
5. Baltimore Orioles

Not having Grayson Rodriguez for the beginning of the season will hurt, but Jordan Westburg and Colton Cowser stepped up in 2024 and should positively impact the rotation. The Orioles have All-Star closer Felix Bautista returning to the lineup, and Tyler O’Neill will provide a strong presence in the outfield. The O’s need to make sure Gunnar Henderson stays healthy in the long run.
4. New York Yankees

Losing Gerrit Cole to Tommy John surgery is going to sting, along with watching Juan Soto sign with the Mets, but the Yankees still have Aaron Judge, DJ LeMahieu, and Giancarlo Staton and added Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt to the lineup. The Yankees must keep their star players healthy if they want another shot at the MLB World Series.
3. Atlanta Braves

Spencer Strider has dealt with injuries and won’t make his debut until the end of April. However, the Braves have Chris Sale, Joe Jiménez, and Reynaldo López ready to go. Not to mention Matt Olson, Ozzie Albies, and Michael Harris Jr. look to rebound for an exciting 2025 MLB season.
2. Philadelphia Phillies

If anyone can try to dethrone the Dodgers in the National League, it’s the Phillies. Taijuan Walker may have had a rough 2024 season after recovering from shoulder surgery and other injuries, but he had a great spring training. The Phillies also have a diverse pitching rotation and power hitters in their lineup, making for an interesting 2025 season.
1. Los Angeles Dodgers

After sweeping the Chicago Cubs in the Tokyo Series, the Dodgers are still favored to hoist the Commissioner’s Trophy. Adding Roki Sasaki to an already-loaded roster is insane, but he still has some work to do. Luckily, the Dodgers can rely on rookie Jack Dreyer and veterans Kirby Yates, Blake Snell, Luis García, and others to step up.
