If you thought Victor Wembanayama was different just because of his unique playing style, think again. While there have been numerous instances of athletes switching their teams frequently, ‘Wemby’ has stood out. Playing for the San Antonio Spurs, Wembanyama has established himself as a superstar. And owing to his impressive showing, there are a lot of suitors for the NBA icon. But as far as the 21-year-old is concerned, he wants to play for a single team.

The 2024 Rookie Of The Year recently made it clear how badly he wanted to be part of a single unit. French journalist Maxime Aubin posted Wembanayama’s statement on X. The 21-year-old stated that he understood that every individual had some exclusive ambitions. And it was his dream to play for the San Antonio Spurs until the end of his career.

“I know that not every player in the NBA has the same ambitions, but it’s obviously my dream to spend my entire career with a single franchise. Here. In San Antonio,” said Wembanyama.

This should be the most pleasant news that the Spurs would want to hear now. As the first overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft, Wembanyama quickly elevated himself, becoming the centerpiece of the team. And while he did struggle with his deep vein thrombosis, ‘Wemby’ is now cleared for the next season.

Wembanyama’s season was abruptly halted the previous year due to unforeseen health complications. Diagnosed with a deep vein thrombosis, the 21-year-old had dark clouds of uncertainties looming over his career. Thankfully, all of that is now gone. In a recent update, Wembanyama has been given the green signal to play in the coming season.

During his offseason recovery, the NBA icon spent time with Shaolin monks in China. Thus, with things looking brighter, it now remains to be seen what happens next.
