Carmelo Anthony Vows To Do Whatever It Takes To Bring The NBA Dunk Contest Fans Have Been Begging For

The NBA Dunk Contest has lost its shine recently, and Carmelo Anthony wants to change that. Star players largely avoid the spotlight, which is owned by legends like Vince Carter and Michael Jordan. Despite the creativity on display, the event now often features fringe players who leave fans wanting more.
Speaking on his 7PM in Brooklyn podcast, the former All-Star made a passionate case for young stars to take center stage in the next dunk contest. He specifically named Zion Williamson, Ja Morant, and Anthony Edwards as the trio who could restore excitement. Anthony’s push is not just nostalgic; it’s a strategic move with NBC set to broadcast All-Star weekend and Carmelo joining the coverage.
“I wanna see the Ja’s, right? I wanna see the Ant Edwards, he has to do it at least once. Ja and Zion, you got those three in there. And you can add somebody from the rookies, you know, get Flagg in there, I wanna see VJ Edgecombe in Philly in the dunk contest,“ Carmelo said on the podcast.
"We gotta get Ant, Ja, and Zion [in the dunk contest] … I'm gonna do what I gotta do to get those guys."

Anthony’s campaign signals a shift in tone. With stars like MacMcClung dazzling but lacking NBA roster status, fans are eager for star power. Carmelo seems ready to do the heavy lifting to deliver it.
Carmelo Anthony Recalls His Journey With The New York Knicks

In 2012, Carmelo Anthony promised a new approach. While he scored efficiently, he told reporters he’d put the New York Knicks’ success first, even if it means sacrificing personal stats. The Knicks added veterans like Jason Kidd and Rasheed Wallace, who gave Melo the support he needed.
“I don’t want to try to put all that burden on myself to go out there and try to do everything, so I’m willing to make any sacrifice in my game regardless of what anybody else says,” Carmelo said, per ESPN. “If my scoring goes from 27 to 23, I’m cool with that. Right now, I’m willing to make any sacrifice that I have to.”
However, he went on to win the scoring title with 28.7 points per game. Still, the Knicks had their best season in years as they finished 54-28 and won a playoff series.
