Derrick White quietly became one of the NBA’s most dependable guards, who won a gold medal and helped the Boston Celtics secure the 2025 NBA title. But there is still one thing he never did: get a technical foul. In a league where players often argue with referees, White usually stays calm.

The 31-year-old is famous for his silent gesture on the court and rarely argues with referees. That attitude makes him different from teammates like Jayson Tatum, who had the fourth-most technical fouls last season. White’s clean record led to some light teasing from others on the team.

“There are guys on the team that have been giving me hell about not having a technical foul,” White told Smirk. “[Jayson Tatum] told me he doesn’t respect me until I get a technical. We’ll see. We’ll see. Not against him, but I’m not going to go out of my way to get one… I’m going to get ejected.”

While White avoided ejections throughout his eight-year career, rookie Jordan Walsh did not hold back. Walsh got ejected from a Summer League game after picking up two quick technical fouls. White joked and sarcastically congratulated him. With Tatum out for now, the Boston Celtics need White to stay on the court, not the bench.

White shared how difficult it is to defend Kevin Durant, even as a top defender. On his White Noise podcast, White said he has always dreamed of blocking Durant’s jumper but has never come close.

White recalled a moment from the 2024 Olympics when Durant came off the bench and dropped 21 points in just nine minutes. Sixth man KD?! Like what are we doing?” White said“He was unbelievable. He hit that fallaway at the halftime buzzer and I’m like, ‘This is unbelievable … you’re one of the coldest ever.’”

Despite all his success, including an NBA title and Olympic gold, White admired Durant’s potential. This is a reminder that some talents in the game are untouchable.
