Kevin Durant, the Houston Rockets star player, is in the spotlight due to the upcoming opening night game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Fans are eager to see Durant’s reaction when his former team raises the championship banner for the first time. Meanwhile, former NBA player Jeff Teague has sparked discussions with his remarks about Durant’s time with the Golden State Warriors.

Durant joined the Warriors on July 4, 2016, forming a superteam alongside Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson. Together, they led the Warriors to back-to-back championships in the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons. Durant also played a key role in helping the Warriors achieve their fifth consecutive appearance in the NBA Finals.

Durant’s time with the Warriors ended on June 30, 2019, when he signed with the Brooklyn Nets. In a recent episode of the Club 520 podcast, Teague boldly stated that the Warriors’ dynasty would not have existed without Durant.

“That KD team was crazy…Yeah, but n****s don’t understand the Cavs team was better than the Warriors team. Yeah. Without KD, they’re better, bro. Think about it. You got two No. 1 picks on your team [Kyrie Irving and LeBron James]. Steph and Klay, they’re nobody y’all Bron and Kyrie were supposed to be this. Steph and Klay weren’t supposed to be this,” Teague said.

Teague pointed out that the Cavaliers indirectly forced the Warriors to acquire Durant because they had more stars and a better roster than the Warriors in 2016.

Durant frequently interacts with fans on social media and takes aim at his critics. In July 2025, the Rockets star blasted Phoenix Suns fans while addressing the franchise’s culture. Recently, Durant returned to social media after a Michael Jordan fan claimed that Jordan is a superior three-level scorer compared to Durant. This fan also asserted that Jordan is the greatest post-up guard and mid-range scorer in NBA history.

Durant responded, “Mike would tell u ima 3 level scorer.”

Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in 62 games in the 2024-25 NBA season.
