Kevin Durant’s Potential Rockets Contract Extension Hit With Blunt Assessment

On July 6, 2025, the Phoenix Suns traded their star player, Kevin Durant, to the Houston Rockets in a seven-team trade, marking the largest deal in NBA history. Even though more than a month has passed since the trade, discussions about Durant’s contract extension continue to generate major interest throughout the league.
Tim MacMahon of ESPN previously reported that the Rockets are not rushing to offer Kevin Durant a maximum contract extension. Additionally, Kurt Helin of NBC Sports noted that Durant is open to taking a major pay cut instead of pursuing a max contract extension with the Rockets. Recently, Durant’s potential contract extension with the Rockets received a blunt assessment.
“The longer it takes or if it doesn’t happen, it’s going to be something that’s going to be talked about every day,” Marc J. Spears said in the recent episode of ESPN’s NBA Today.

Austin Rivers Issues Bold Comparison Between Kevin Durant and LeBron James

Austin Rivers recently appeared on the Off Guard podcast to discuss several topics within the league. During the discussion, the former basketball player made a bold comparison between Kevin Durant and Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James.
“LeBron [James] doesn’t have half the offensive bag that Kevin [Durant] has. But LeBron has been so dominant at the things he does do offensively, he hasn’t needed it,” Rivers said.
