There was something about Conor McGregor that made him go global and put the UFC on the map. It was his innate self-belief and ability to back up his words. He defeated legends like Jose Aldo, Eddie Alvarez, and so many others; he made them feel like myths. But while McGregor still shows flashes of his competitive nature and brashness to promote his UFC return, even eyeing a comeback at a White House event, Alexander Volkanovski believes he will never again be the same caliber of fighter he once was.

Talking on the Unscripted Show, Volkanovski gave his take on McGregor, showing both respect and realism. He believes the Irishman was once ahead of his time, with sharp skills that made him stand out. But Volkanovski feels those days are gone, and while McGregor might still be dangerous, he will never return to his old peak form.

“He was a great fighter. He was actually even a bit ahead of his time. And He was really good. I don’t think people give him credit. He was sharp and all of that’s gone now. He’s gonna be reasonably sharp, but he’s never gonna be that same Conor McGregor,” he said.

Meanwhile, it’s been four years since McGregor last fought inside the cage. His most recent fight was at UFC 264 in 2021, where he broke his leg and never returned despite teasing comebacks multiple times, including last year. Now, he has his sights set on a return to the White House.

White revealed the massive news during an interview on The Jim Rome Show. He mentioned the White House and shared that he trusts McGregor over Jon Jones to headline it. White’s comments come as he will meet with President Donald Trump later this month to finalize plans.

The UFC president explained how reliable McGregor is, stating that he is always willing to step up and put on a show every time he fights. Jones, however, has injuries and legal issues that make White question his reliability for such a big event.
