Daniel Cormier Believes UFC Is Moving On From The Champ-Champ Era

Conor McGregor kicked off a trend in the UFC when he became the first fighter to hold two belts at the same time. After him, several others managed to join that exclusive list. But over the past few years, fewer fighters have gone after simultaneous titles, even when the opportunity was there. Now, Daniel Cormier believes the days of UFC fighters holding two belts at once are pretty much over.
DC saw the writing on the wall when Ilia Topuria had to give up his title, and now Zhang Weili is getting forced to do the same, just proving his point. What bugs Cormier is how different these situations are when Islam Makhachev dropped a belt; at least there was an obvious next guy waiting.
Since Weili vacated the belt and Mackenzie Dern now fights Virna Jandiroba, Cormier believes the UFC has moved on from the champ-champ era made famous by Conor McGregor, Henry Cejudo, Amanda Nunes, and even himself.
He said, “To me, it represents something a little bit different. To me, it feels…like when Ilia gave up his belt, you started to kind of sense that the champ-champ era might be coming to an end.Like the simultaneous champ, the Conor McGregor, DC, Henry and Amanda Nunes. It seemed like that era, it might be coming to an end.”
While Topuria claims it wasn’t the UFC pushing them to do it, the trend makes it clear the promotion doesn’t seem too interested in letting champions hold two divisions anymore. Meanwhile, DC shared how Jack Della Maddalena apologized to him ahead of Islam Makhachev’s fight.
Jack Della Maddalena Apologizes To Daniel Cormier Over “Mute Button” Comment

Cormier revealed that JDM reached out to apologize after making a comment on Instagram suggesting the UFC needed a DC mute button. Cormier explained that he texted the Australian fighter directly to ask why he said it, and Della Maddalena admitted it was a mistake.
According to Cormier, the welterweight contender quickly owned up to the comment and cleared the air with him.
Fans slam Daniel Cormier for being too biased and taking over the entire broadcast. Joe Rogan catches heat, too – people are always complaining about how he says the same stuff over and over again. But somehow Jon Anik stays out of all the drama.
