Devin Booker was not a top prospect when he entered the league. In college at Kentucky, he came off the bench in all 38 games and averaged just 10 points. In the 2015 NBA draft, Booker was selected at No. 13 by the Phoenix Suns. He improved his game over time and now he is ready to lead the same franchise in the upcoming season.

Brooker’s journey impressed many veteran NBA players. Over the years, he worked hard and developed himself as a core piece in the Suns’ depth. Angelo Russell, who entered the league the same year as Booker, witnessed Booker’s rise from the ground.

“He’s one of the few guys I watched develop into who he is. Just watching him elevate his game every year,” Russell said. “Watching him develop all these things and his game, and it’s just like ‘Now y’all comparing this guy to Kobe?’. It’s recognizing and appreciating it, and also being motivated by it.”

Russell’s career had ups and downs, while Booker improved each year. However,  Russell thinks he is still at the top of his career. With his elite shooting and scoring ability, many now see Booker as one of the best in the league.
