The 2025 NBA offseason is nearing its end, and the 2025-26 NBA season is quickly approaching. The hype of the upcoming season is palpable after the schedule of the games surfaced. As the teams prepare for the season, Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki revealed one crucial aspect for the Mavericks.

During the Dirk Nowitzki Foundation 7th Annual Tennis Classic, the Mavericks legend mentioned that the team’s success in the 2025-26 NBA season will largely depend on the players’ health.

“I think they’re pretty stacked, I’ve been saying it the last few weeks. To me, it all depends on health. When’s Kyrie coming back, is he gonna be 100 percent when he comes back, is AD gonna stay healthy, we know Lively missed some action over the last few years. But if they stay healthy, I think that’s a very deep team,” Nowitzki said.

The Mavericks faced many disappointments during the 2024-25 NBA season. They acquired Anthony Davis in mid-season in exchange for Luka Doncic. However, that development did not unfold well for the team, as Davis strained his left adductor, which led him to miss 18 games.

Another injury challenge came when the star guard tore his ACL on March 3. All these challenges increased the difficulty for the Mavericks. The team made strong efforts in the play-in tournament but failed to secure a playoff spot. The Mavericks finished the regular season in 10th spot in the Western Conference standings with a 39-43 record.

After the disappointing season, Irving has spent a long time on quick recovery this offseason, and during a live stream, Nowitzki made some promising claims. Moreover, the Mavericks selected Cooper Flagg in the 2025 NBA draft. During the interview, Dirk Nowitzki discussed the Mavericks’ plans for Flagg in the upcoming season.

“I think that’s a very deep team – at least two guys per position that can play multiple ways with Cooper’s versatility on the wing. Obviously we heard J-Kidd talk about maybe playing him at some guard while Kyrie is out so I think there’s a lot of lineups he can go with. The front line is stacked – it should be really good defensively with that length that they have, the athleticism,” Nowitzki said.

The Mavericks are preparing to make a better impact in the upcoming season. Fans are excited to see how these preparations will unfold for the team.
