Steve Kerr Makes Bold Declaration On Jonathan Kuminga’s Place In Golden State Warriors Locker Room

Before the upcoming NBA 2025-26 season, Steve Kerr’s association with the Golden State Warriors seems to be in danger as the extension decision is still looming. However, as of now, he is still the head coach, and his recent comments regarding Jonathan Kuminga are capturing multiple eyeballs.
The 22-year-old power forward joined the Warriors back in 2021 as the 7th pick in the first round of the NBA draft. His impact on the team’s performance is immense, and his 12.5 points per game statistics prove it all. However, according to head coach Steve Kerr, the Congolese star is still not on par with the aura of leaders like Jimmy Butler, Stephen Curry, and Draymond Green.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Steve Kerr said, “[Jonathan Kuminga is] not that guy to come in and tear a team down… Jimmy [Butler] is an alpha. Steph [Curry] and Draymond [Green] are alphas. They run that locker room. I’m not worried about anything.”
"Steve Kerr doesn't want Kuminga. Kuminga doesn't want to play for the Warriors, in part, because he knows the coach doesn't want him."

Certainly, Kerr believes Kuminga is not a player who would disrupt the Warriors’ locker room. Well, that’s certainly right, as he has been in the league for only four years. While stars like Butler, Curry, and Green are veterans of the game, their impact in the Warriors locker room is actually more than that of any other players.
Reports Suggest Steve Kerr No Longer Wants Jonathan Kuminga In Golden State Warriors

Ever since the Draymond Green and Jordan Poole brawl, Kerr has been very vocal about the Warriors’ locker room situation. Since then, multiple reports have suggested a broken relationship between team members. And recently, the ongoing trade rumors about Kuminga also pointed to the same thing.
Speaking on NBA Today, ESPN’s Tim MacMahon said that things between Steve Kerr and Jonathan Kuminga don’t seem to be good. He said,
“Steve Kerr doesn’t want Kuminga. Kuminga doesn’t want to play for the Warriors, in part because he knows the coach doesn’t want him. There’s going to be a divorce eventually. Let’s stay together for the kids. I’ve lived that. I’ve lived with my ex-wife for a year after we three did a divorce for the kids,”

Notably, Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob even flew to Miami to discuss a potential contract extension with the 22-year-old Congolese player. However, according to MacMohan, it’s better for the team to trade Jonathan Kuminga, as it will be nothing but a “disaster.” Well, as of now, what happens between the Warriors and Kuminga is still a mystery!
