The NBA rumor mill has been throwing out some crazy pitches lately, and the latest one might be the most chaotic swing of the week. The chatter started heating up again when a mock trade involving Kyrie Irving went viral, dragging the Mavericks, Rockets, and even Mark Cuban back into the catbird’s seat.

And as always, when Cuban speaks, we listen. His reactions still hit with the same authority, even after selling the majority stake in Dallas. Plus, on Nov. 20, the Mavs made a strong internal stance on the 33-year-old’s future amid all the trade buzz.

Then came the crush. On Nov. 21, former Maverick Theo Pinson jumped on “To The Baha” and tossed gasoline on the fire with a Kyrie-to-Houston scenario. His take is that the Rockets should trade Amen Thompson and Alperen Sengun for Irving.

“But if Kyrie goes to Houston, oh my god. Bye bye, Amen.”

That set the stage for the earlier mock deal that had Irving landing in Houston for Fred VanVleet, Dorian Finney-Smith, and a 2029 first-rounder, an idea Cuban shot down instantly with a single-word DM that read: NO.

Three days later, that message is still echoing. It shut the door on the rumor, reaffirmed Cuban’s grip on roster decisions, and made it clear Dallas isn’t entertaining chaos just for clicks.

Irving’s future in Dallas has become one of the toughest reads of the season. The Mavs are drowning in injuries, grinding through the toughest clutch-game load in the league, and still searching for any kind of momentum. The schedule only gets nastier from here, which has amplified every question surrounding their direction.

That pressure has fueled louder calls for a midseason reset. Some fans and analysts want a full fire sale before the deadline, especially with Dallas sitting at the bottom of the West and Irving still sidelined. But the context matters. Dallas just handed him a major deal this summer, and there’s still enough talent on the roster to reset quickly if the new front office plays it right.

As of November 21, according to team discussions, Kyrie Irving is attacking his recovery with determination, and any return will hinge on where Dallas stands by midseason.
