In the UFC, almost every fighter wants to face Conor McGregor to get the biggest paycheck of their career. He’s the biggest money fight in the sport, and one bout with him can set fighters up financially. Michael Chandler hasn’t fought for two years just to get that fight. But Khamzat Chimaev says he doesn’t need it.

Chimaev shut down any talk of fighting McGregor when asked about the matchup. He called Conor too old and finished, then ended it with a quick greeting and moved on—no interest whatsoever from the middleweight champion.

He said, “Conor is too old bro, he’s finished. Salam Alaikum.”

McGregor’s 37 now and hasn’t stepped into the octagon since breaking his leg against Poirier at UFC 264 back in 2021. That’s years away from competition at the highest level, and the sport moves fast. Fighters who sit out that long rarely come back the same.

The leg injury, the time away, and now being dismissed by champions – McGregor’s path back to relevance gets harder every month he stays inactive. Meanwhile, despite the layoff, ‘The Irishman’ keeps teasing his return for next year’s White House event.

McGregor received a suspension for failing to pass a drug test. He can’t fight again until March 2026, but the White House fight he mentioned still can happen, as the event is set for June. Meanwhile, he announced he’s taking six months completely off from everything. No phone, no contact with people, just focusing on getting it right.

That kind of isolation is extreme, but McGregor claims he needs it to come back properly. His social media has gone quiet lately, which actually gives the statement some credibility. The silence suggests maybe he’s actually following through this time instead of just talking about it.
