The Toronto Blue Jays aren’t wasting time letting the offseason cool down. Having fallen just short in 2025, Ross Atkins and his front office seem ready to turn things around in a big way.

So, the Jays are balancing two major priorities: keeping their homegrown cornerstone, Bo Bichette, whose future with the team is about to take a drastic turn, while hunting for a left-handed slugger to balance their lineup. And that’s where stuff gets interesting.

On November 12, “Blue Jays Today” posted a text exchange with MLB insider Bob Nightengale that sent us fans spinning.

“I think there is a world with both, particularly because I think Bichette will ask for an opt-out in his deal,” Nightengale said.

Multiple reports confirm the Blue Jays will aggressively pursue free agent Kyle Tucker while trying to re-sign Bichette, who’s expected to decline his qualifying offer. There’s no real trade talk yet, but if the Jays somehow pull off both moves, Atkins might be pulling off an offseason masterclass.

The offseason’s just getting started, but Bichette is already one of the hottest names on the market. After helping lead the Toronto Blue Jays to the 2025 World Series, the two-time All-Star shortstop has quickly become a top target for multiple contenders. The twist is that some teams reportedly see him fitting somewhere other than shortstop.

According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, several clubs are interested in Bichette as a second or third baseman, given they already have shortstops locked in.

“Can confirm Bo Bichette has received interest from multiple teams who view him as a second baseman or third baseman, due to the presence of an established shortstop on those rosters,” Morosi tweeted.

That flexibility only boosts his value. Bo Bichette hit .311 with 18 homers and 94 RBIs in 2025, then showed out on the biggest stage, hitting .346 in the World Series, including a three-run bomb off Shohei Ohtani in Game 7. While the Dodgers, Mets, and Yankees are circling, the Blue Jays still hope to bring him back. The only question now is whether he’ll chase a new role or stay loyal to the team that drafted him.
