Four quarterback-needy teams are being linked to a possible offseason trade involving Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray amid another frustrating season for the 28-year-old.

Last week, the Cardinals placed Kyler Murray on the injured reserve with a foot injury, sidelining him for the next four games. The offense has notably played better under backup Jacoby Brissett, scoring at least 22 points in each of his four starts.

Speculation is ramping up that the Cardinals will move on from the No. 1 pick of the 2019 NFL Draft after this season. Arizona looks poised to pick in the top-10 again, and the 2026 class is loaded with promising quarterback prospects.

Discussing Murray’s future in Arizona, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano floated the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins and Carolina Panthers as possible landing spots for Murray. Here’s what Fowler said:

“It’s clear to everyone watching the Cardinals over the past month that the offense is running more smoothly with Jacoby Brissett at the helm. Murray’s 44.3 QBR ranks 26th in the NFL, but he is an immense talent who could use a change. Multiple teams will likely have quarterback openings, including the Jets and Browns.”

Graziano made the case for the Dolphins and Panthers:

“I’d add Miami to that list if it gets to the end of the season and doesn’t feel convinced Tua Tagovailoa is its long-term quarterback, which is certainly possible. I guess we could throw Carolina in for similar reasons if Bryce Young doesn’t turn things around. Most people I talk to about the Murray situation doubt that the Cardinals will be able to trade that contract, which means he’d likely be released before that 2027 money triggers next March.”

Murray is 38-48-1 as a starting quarterback with a 67.1 completion percentage for 20,460 yards, 121 touchdowns, 60 interceptions, 3,193 rushing yards and 32 touchdowns. Arizona went to the playoffs with Murray in 2021, but they were crushed by the eventual Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams in the Wild Card Round.

Murray has never hit his full ceiling with the Cardinals, and these constant seven-to-eight-win seasons shouldn’t be the expectation in Arizona anymore. At some point, Murray and the organization must realize that a fresh start is best for both parties.

We’ve seen quarterbacks like Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones enjoy unexpected career revivals on new clubs. And so far, Brissett has been up to the challenge in Arizona.

The Cardinals have been one of the league’s worst-run franchises for decades. They also need a better quarterback. Both can be true, which is why Murray and his camp should push hard for a fresh start in the offseason.
