Petr Yan Says He Didn’t Join UFC To Make Friends Ahead Of Merab Dvalishvili Showdown
The final PPV of the year is just days away. Merab Dvalishvili, who has become the division’s and the promotion’s biggest star, is going to defend his belt for the fourth time this year. This time, he’ll face Petr Yan, and the Russian fighter issued a warning before the fight.
This is going to be a rematch between Dvalishvili and Yan. Their first fight was won by ‘The Machine’ via decision. However, this time, ‘No Mercy’ is training very hard to reclaim his title. During a recent video posted by the UFC, Yan makes it clear he’s not fighting for people’s validation. In the video, the Russian fighter said:
“I came into the UFC not to please anyone. I came into the UFC not to please anyone. Not so that people would say ‘Oh, he’s such a good or bad guy.’ I had my own dream, my own goal, and what people say means nothing to me.”

The former bantamweight champion is on a three-fight win streak. Additionally, it’s an important fight for Dvalishvili as well since he’s defended his belt against the biggest threat, Umar Nurmagomedov, and is now on a 14-fight win streak, aiming to break Anderson Silva’s 16-fight win streak record.

‘Young Eagle’ was the biggest threat to Dvalishvili’s bantamweight throne. However, the Georgian champion pulled off a victory and became the biggest superstar of the division. Both fighters had an intense, heated conversation, and recently, Dvalishvili revealed why he disliked Nurmagomedov.
On the Pound4Pound Show, ‘The Machine’ said, “He called me fake champion— what kind of man are you? When you have somebody tweeting for you.”
