UConn fans woke up Wednesday thinking it’d be just another day in the playbook. Until the Huskies dropped a bombshell the size of a busted coverage. Jim Mora is packing his headset and heading to Colorado State, and the shockwaves stretched all the way from Storrs to the living room of college football’s biggest GOAT.

Nick Saban hopped on the Pat McAfee Show that afternoon, only to learn, in real time, that Mora was taking the job in Fort Collins.

“No, I have not heard that,” Saban said, looking like someone just called a fake punt on 4th-and-27. “But I don’t know why he would do such a thing.”

Turns out, UConn Nation felt the exact same way. When UConnCentral threw Saban’s reaction up on Instagram with the caption, “College Football 🐐 HC Nick Saban on Jim Mora leaving UConn for Colorado State: “I have not heard that, but I don’t know why he would do such a thing.”

Fans rallied in agreement, and the comment section turned into a full-blown recruiting trail.

This user wrote, “UConn can hire Nick Saban.”

This one chimed in saying, “Saban the HC position is open. Truly show us you’re the best college coach ever”

This one said, “How about we hire Saban”

This was all in. “We agree Coach Saban 😒”

This user said, “Nick Saban for HC #rollskies”

And this one said, “I’m pissed we want Saban”

The wildest part? The timing is a little sus. Mora just posted back-to-back nine-win seasons, something UConn football hadn’t touched since 2007. He had a Biletnikoff finalist, a QB playing like he was one stiff-arm away from a Heisman invite, and a 2025 season without a single regulation loss. And then, like a whiplash, he hits the portal for Colorado State.

Could Nick Saban Be The Answer UConn Nation Is Desperately Calling For?

Mora didn’t just wander into Storrs with a whistle and a résumé. He brought league DNA with him. Spending nearly two decades in the NFL, learning under icons like Don Coryell, steering the Atlanta Falcons all the way to an NFC Championship Game, and taking the reins in Seattle right after the Mike Holmgren era. Along the way, he pumped out Pro Bowlers at every level of the defense, like he was running a factory.

That’s the pedigree UConn signed up for, and he delivered.

In just three seasons, Mora flipped the script. He dragged the Huskies out of the basement and made them bowl-eligible three times in four years. For the first time in forever, UConn football didn’t just show up; they lined up, hit back, and looked like a program with a real identity and a real vision.

UConn fans are ready to throw the whole playbook at Nick Saban if it means keeping the Huskies in the win column.
