President Donald Trump Sends Shockwaves Across The Sports Gambling World With Latest Comments
President Donald Trump indicated that he could make a drastic change that would greatly benefit everyone involved in the gambling industry.
As Donald Trump approaches one full year in his second term, the 79-year-old has seen a significant decline in his approval rating. Like any president, it’s complicated for Trump to devise a policy that would please people from all political parties.
If Trump wants to find such a policy, the answer just might lie in the gambling industry. And the president of the United States knows that.
Per Michael Sinkewicz of FOX Business, Trump told reporters at Air Force One that he’s thinking about getting rid of all federal taxes on gambling winnings.
“We have no tax on tips, we have no tax on Social Security, and we have no tax on overtime,” Donald Trump said. “No tax on gambling winnings, I don’t know. I’m gonna have to think about that.”
President Trump says he's considering eliminating taxes on gambling winnings. This would provide a massive boost to the Las Vegas economy by encouraging higher spending and drawing gamblers away from foreign/illegal markets.

In the United States, money made through gambling is fully taxable. Citizens must report the winnings on their tax return. The IRS notes that this counts toward cash and other winnings, like vehicles and vacations.
Donald Trump’s Proposed Change Could Take The Gambling Industry To Another Level
Sports betting generates a significant portion of the revenue in the American gambling industry. In 2018, the Supreme Court of the United States overturned the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA). Donald Trump was in his second year as president at the time.
The act made sports betting illegal in most parts of the United States. But the Supreme Court’s groundbreaking ruling allowed each state to legalize betting. Currently, 39 states permit it.
Despite this, illegal sports betting acts remain prevalent in the United States. In October, authorities arrested Chauncey Billups, Terry Rozier and Damon Jones for their involvement in an illegal sports betting ring.
Less than a month later, Cleveland Guardians pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz were arrested for their involvement in a pitch rigging scheme.
Many illegal gambling rings are held to avoid paying taxes. If Donald Trump were to eliminate all federal taxes on winnings, there’s no telling how much it could boost the industry.
