MLB News: Red Sox Trade Possibility, Yankees Seek To Add All-Star Pitcher & More
The Boston Red Sox had a successful 2025 MLB campaign, reaching the playoffs for the first time since 2021. However, the young team will need a few additions in the winter to keep them in postseason contention next year. While a power hitter in the middle of the lineup is the obvious need, they might also need another veteran arm to bolster their bullpen.
On Wednesday, a report by Sean McAdam and Tony Cotillo of MassLive stated that the Red Sox have made inquiries about right-handed pitcher Seranthony Dominguez. The 31-year-old was traded by the Baltimore Orioles at the deadline this year and ended up winning the American League pennant with the Toronto Blue Jays. He became an MLB free agent after they lost the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
“Don’t discount the possibility of the Red Sox adding a veteran reliever or two via free agency,” they wrote. “One name the Red Sox have checked in on? Seranthony Dominguez, though nothing is hot there as of Tuesday night.”

Boston already has an established setup man in Garrett Whitlock, while retaining Aroldis Chapman after his dominant season as their closer. Therefore, Dominguez will have a straightforward role as a middle reliever if any deal comes through. He recorded 62.1 innings with a 3.16 ERA for Baltimore and Toronto during the regular season, but also led the MLB with 12 wild pitches.
Yankees Seeking MLB Trade Deal For Brewers’ All-Star
The New York Yankees are among the five teams vying for a trade deal with the Milwaukee Brewers to acquire Freddy Peralta for the 2026 season, as per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. Their American League East rivals, the Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles, are also reportedly pursuing the starting pitcher, along with the Houston Astros and the San Francisco Giants.
“The Brewers left the door ajar at the winter meetings, and naturally, teams came barging through,” Rosenthal wrote on Wednesday.
“The Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants, and Houston Astros are among the teams in on Peralta, according to people familiar with the Brewers’ discussions.”

Peralta is entering the final year of his contract with the Brewers. The 29-year-old right-hander produced the best season of his 8-year MLB career, earning his second All-Star selection, before finishing as the wins leader in the National League with a 17-6 record. He pitched 176.2 innings with a 2.70 ERA, 1.075 WHIP, and 204 strikeouts. Therefore, his $8 million salary for 2026 makes him a huge bargain for any team.
Red Sox Turn To Eugenio Suarez After Missing Out On Kyle Schwarber, Pete Alonso
Bringing in an elite power hitter into their lineup from the free agent market was the primary objective for the Boston Red Sox at the start of the offseason. Those aspirations suffered a massive blow at the Winter Meetings this week after Kyle Schwarber rejoined the Philadelphia Phillies and Pete Alonso signed with the Baltimore Orioles. According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, the Red Sox are now pivoting to Eugenio Suarez.
“Eugenio Suarez is yet another infielder the Red Sox are showing interest in,” Heyman posted via X on Wednesday evening.

Suarez became a free agent after delivering one of the best seasons of his 12-year spell in the MLB. The 34-year-old third baseman got off to a hot start with the Arizona Diamondbacks before getting traded to the Seattle Mariners at the deadline. He smashed 49 home runs this year to tie his personal best from 2019. It was the fifth-best tally among all players in the major this season, and the most by an infielder.
