February 12 in Dallas wasn’t just another regular-season night. It was a literal flex. The Los Angeles Lakers walked into American Airlines Center and ran the Dallas Mavericks off the floor, 124-104, per NBA.com and ESPN’s recap. The Lakers shot 56% and never looked stressed. Meanwhile, Dallas dropped its ninth straight – the franchise’s longest skid in 28 years.

The box score had juice, though. LeBron James turned back time with 28 points, 12 boards, and 10 assists, becoming the oldest player in league history to post a triple-double. However, the real tone-setter was Jaxson Hayes. Sixteen points. Seven rebounds. A game-best +26 in 34 minutes. He owned the paint. This comes amid his issued apology after Wizards mascot incident.

Then came the mic-drop moment. During a heated exchange with P. J. Washington, Hayes reportedly leaned in and asked:

“What’s y’all’s record?”

That one landed. Dallas sits at 19-35. Washington finished with 18 points but a -4 rating. Hayes, fresh off scrutiny from a prior unsportsmanlike incident, let his play (and his words) echo.

Hayes is staring at a lawsuit and a spotlight, all in the same week. On February 11, attorney Waukeen McCoy confirmed he represents the person inside the Washington Wizards’ mascot costume after the 25-year-old’s January 30 shove. McCoy said they’re open to settlement but “legal action is anticipated.”

He also criticized the NBA’s one-game suspension as insufficient. Jaxson Hayes served that ban February 5 vs. Philadelphia and said the mascot stepped on his foot. Now flip the page. He’s locked in for the AT&T Slam Dunk Contest on February 14 at Intuit Dome in Inglewood, airing 5 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.

The 7-footer could become the tallest winner ever, topping Dwight Howard, and just the second Laker since Kobe Bryant in 1997.
