When the Philadelphia 76ers were pitted against the Boston Celtics, the dark clouds of concerns were hovering. Surging rapidly on the NBA Power Rankings, the Celtics are looking like a serious threat. Interestingly, following game 1, the 76ers fans might have miscalculated a little. And they paid the price heavily for the same.

Coming into game 1, the Celtics started their dominance right away. With the 76ers’ camp trying to find their footing, Celtics fans felt this was the right time to troll their opponents brutally. During a point when Boston was leading by 30 points, the Celtics fans started to chant “We Want Boston.”

For the uninitiated, previously, the Philadelphia fans pointed out that getting Boston as their playoff opponents would be a favorable matchup. Unfortunately, the Philadelphia 76ers saw things take a grim turn as their opponents crushed them 123–91.

As things now move onto the next game, drawing level will be quite the task for Philadelphia. Moreover, with the likes of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown accounting for 51 points, a comeback for their opponent is looking far-fetched.

Additionally, the numbers, too, are not in Philly’s favor.

The Philadelphia 76ers have Historically Struggled against the Boston Celtics

Ahead of their playoff game, Philadelphia received a huge blow as Joel Embiid was ruled out. And with his return shrouded in mystery, the future looks quite grim for the 76ers. But this is not a one-off incident. Looking at previous records, it is the Celtics who have had the upper hand. The last time Philadelphia beat the Celtics in an NBA playoff was 44 years ago, in 1982.

On the contrary, keeping their focus intact, Boston head coach Joe Mazzulla stated, “It’s just part of – there’s a history to the series, which I can appreciate. At the same time, we have to focus on the task at hand and the most important things are the stuff that we can control. Playoff basketball obviously means more. It’s different in Boston. You move on and it’s [about] how can we get better?”
