The Boston Celtics made a powerful statement in their 2026 playoff opener, winning Game 1 of the first-round series against the Philadelphia 76ers. This commanding win created a buzz among fans, and Celtics legend Paul Pierce weighed in with high praise.

On the No Fouls Given Show, Pierce highlighted not only the impressiveness of their performance but also reminded everyone that the Celtics have dominated the playoffs against Philly since 1982.

“Like, seriously we haven’t lost to them. The last time they beat us in the playoffs was 82. Like, a lot of people who are watching this show wasn’t even born. I was five years old. When I saw Sixers vs Celtics, I was like, I usually go to the Celtics first round I don’t even want to waste that trip. I really didn’t want to waste that trip because I know, I know.” Pierce said.

As of now, the Celtics and 76ers have played 24 playoff series against each other, with Boston winning 15, including six consecutive series victories dating back to 1982. Well, their dominance was visible in Game 1, where standout duo Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown stole the spotlight. Tatum finished the game with 25 points, seven assists, and 11 rebounds, while Brown scored 26 points, three assists, and four rebounds. These strong efforts led the Celtics to a 123-91 win.

Tatum Shares Thoughts After Celtics’ Dominant Game 1 Performance

Tatum had waited a long time to step back on the court after suffering an ACL tear during the last playoffs. Many had speculated that he would not return this season. However, after a swift recovery, the 28-year-old forward returned even before the playoffs began. Following his leadership in the Celtics’ Game 1 victory over the 76ers, he shared his thoughts.

“Not too long ago, I wasn’t even sure if I was going to be able to play this season, let alone in the playoffs. Today was probably the most excited, relaxed, and grateful I’ve been in my 9 years of being here. I’m just super happy to be out here and play.” Tatum said during the post-game interview.

Tatum’s injury led to their playoff exit last season. Fans are eager to see how the team will recover this season and how Tatum can lead them to the championship. Looking ahead, the Celtics will play Game 2 of the first-round playoff series against the 76ers on April 21st at 7:00 PM EDT at TD Garden.
