There is no doubt that UFC fighters and their profession are among the most uncommon and hardest to be in. It requires years of blood and hard work to reach a certain level. However, many fans sometimes dismiss it as a profession by questioning their pay. Meanwhile, Dana White has come in and defended it, explaining the real difference between a fighter’s job and that of everyday workers.

White says fighting in the UFC is more of a chance than a normal job. The UFC gives fighters a big stage, fame, and a lot of attention that smaller promotions cannot give. As per the UFC boss, if the fighters use this chance well, they can earn good money, build their name, get brand deals, and set up a future after fighting.

This isn’t a job. This isn’t a career. This is an opportunity for you to become as famous as you can possibly be. Many people around the world see the great things that you’ve accomplished and make as much money as you can possibly make. Then there’s a second part of your life that they have to go out and figure who they are and what they want to do,” White said.

There is no doubt that after hearing the comments, many fans got triggered. Some fans agree with White, but some have blatantly dismissed it, calling out his comments.

Fans Fire Back At Dana White Over UFC “Not A Job” Comment

The problem is what opportunity leaves out. Jobs and careers usually mean steady pay and security. Calling fighting an opportunity changes what fighters should expect and makes it feel less stable.

This is really going to offend the “give JJ Aldrich millions” club, but he’s not wrong. Even if you multiply fighter pay across board, it’s not a sustainable long-term career for a majority of fighters out there,” a fan wrote.

Translation: We don’t want to pay you guys. You gotta do that on your own,” the fan said.

As famous as we allow you to be since we don’t want any more McGregors so we go out of our way not to promote you too much,” a fan said, suggesting now White doesn’t promote fighters much.

Opportunity, yes. But it’s still a job with real consequences,” a fan said.

Fighters risk their health how is that “not a career,” another fan said.

Easy to say when it’s not your body taking the damage,” a fan said.

Arman is doing this masterfully btw,” a X user wrote.

The fighters create the opportunity, and they are the opportunity too. How they get paid for that is a question the sport still has not fully answered.
