This was no playoff opener in L.A.; it felt like a crossover episode we didn’t see coming. The Lakers beat the Rockets 107-98 in Game 1 of the Western Conference series, but the real headline was LeBron James sharing the biggest stage of the postseason with his son, Bronny. That’s a first in NBA playoff history, energy.

James had 19 points, running the floor like it’s routine at this point. However, every possession had extra weight. Bronny checked in for four minutes in the second quarter, picked up a turnover, and still walked into something way bigger than stats.

L.A. pulled it off without Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, while Houston missed Kevin Durant, but the Lakers still got balance across the board with Luke Kennard dropping 27 to lead the charge. After the win, King James didn’t try to dress it up. He kept it honest about what it meant to him.

“I was on the floor with my son in a playoff game. That’s probably the craziest thing that’s ever happened to me in my career… My mom gets to watch her son and her grandson during the playoffs. That’s crazy.”

From postgame media availability, the Lakers take a 1-0 lead back into Game 2 on Tuesday in L.A., even with DraftKings still leaning toward the Rockets at -225.

LeBron James Makes History as Lakers Strike First in Game 1 Win Over Rockets

James and the Lakers opened their playoff run with a loud statement, grabbing a 107-98 Game 1 win over the Rockets.

The 41-year-old star logged 38 minutes and delivered 19 points, 13 assists, eight rebounds, plus two steals and a block. With that, he became the oldest player in NBA playoff history to record a points-assists double-double, while remaining efficient at 9-for-15 from the field and running the offense like clockwork.

That milestone puts him just behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who held a similar mark at age 42 back in 1989. As posted on X via RealApp on April 18, 2026, LeBron James’ 60% shooting night only added to a performance that mixed control, history, and a playoff win in one clean package.
