Max Scherzer Injury: Latest Update On The Blue Jays Veteran

The Toronto Blue Jays’ pitching situation keeps getting messier, plus there’s uncertainty around Max Scherzer. Toronto entered Monday’s series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays still searching for rotation stability after another rough stretch from its pitching staff.
That pressure led the Blue Jays to bring back Yariel Rodríguez from Triple-A Buffalo before Monday’s game. Rodríguez had been designated for assignment during the offseason but forced his way back into the picture, having posted a 2.63 ERA with 25 strikeouts across 13.2 innings in Triple-A. Toronto also designated Eric Lauer for assignment after his difficult start to the 2026 campaign.
The bigger concern, however, remains the health of Max Scherzer and fellow starters José Berríos and Shane Bieber. As per the team’s roster update, all three pitchers remain sidelined without a clear return timeline, leaving major questions around Toronto’s long-term rotation plans.
“The injured trio of José Berríos, Shane Bieber, and Max Scherzer all remain without a timeline for their return.”

Max Scherzer’s Injury Situation Keeps Getting Worse
Scherzer and the Toronto Blue Jays are dealing with another frustrating setback. The veteran right-hander will receive a cortisone injection in his troublesome right thumb after lingering soreness recently returned.
Manager John Schneider said the thumb issue is not new and actually bothered Scherzer throughout last season. Toronto decided to address the injury now, even though Max Scherzer remains sidelined with forearm tendinitis and ankle problems.

That leaves the Blue Jays stuck searching for rotation stability while waiting for their future Hall of Famer to finally get healthy again this season.
