Rapper Cardi B is criticizing the Texas legal system after Karmelo Anthony was sentenced to 35 years in prison for a fatal stabbing.

The music superstar took to social media to voice her disapproval of the punishment handed down to Karmelo, calling the lengthy term excessive for the young defendant. The Texas teenager was convicted in the 2025 killing of fellow student Austin Metcalf.

This case drew significant local and national attention due to the races of the kids involved. It concluded with a jury deciding on a multi-decade sentence that sparked immediate debate online regarding juvenile justice and sentencing reform.

The rapper shared her blunt reaction with her tens of millions of followers on X.

Cardi B expressed that the court’s decision felt more like a performance than a fair application of the law. “Wow! Just freakin wow! DISGUSTING… This is not justice, this is trying to make an example!!!,” she said on X.

“Wow! Just freakin wow! DISGUSTING… This is not justice, this is trying to make an example!!!,” she said on X.

She didn’t find too many that agreed with her.

“When you give retards millions of dollars and large platforms,” Jason Whitlock wrote.

“If you’re willing to defend a MURDERER like Karmelo….mind you, even his defense witnesses stated that Karmelo was in the wrong. Why TF should anyone believe you moving forward? You are doing black families an INJUSTICE moving forward,” a second person stated.

“He stabbed an innocent white man. But then again, I wouldn’t expect any morality from you, given that you’ve drugged and raped men for pocket change,” a third person brought up.

“Cardi, a jury just convicted Karmelo Anthony of murder for walking into a rival team’s tent, refusing to leave, threatening, then stabbing an innocent kid straight in the chest after a shove.

That’s not “making an example.” That’s called consequences for taking a human life. Austin’s parents don’t get their son back, ever. 35 years is actually light. Maybe the former stripper who openly bragged about drugging and robbing men should sit this one out. Justice for Austin Metcalf. Not the guy who murdered him,” one final person commented.

Cardi B’s comments suggest she believes the 35-year sentence was intentionally harsh, rather than a proportional response to the crime committed. Supporters of Anthony pointed to his lack of prior criminal history. They also argued that the circumstances surrounding the confrontation warranted consideration.

Donations for Anthony’s legal defense on GiveSendGo surpassed $633,000 just as a Texas jury convicted the teenager of first-degree murder.

Now, he will have to wait and see if an appeal can go through to overturn this conviction or grant a new trial.
