Angry Yellowstone Bison Charges At Tourist, Launches Him 8 Feet Into Air During Frightening Scene [VIDEO]

A Yellowstone bison attacked a tourist Friday evening. The bull tossed the man eight feet into the air. Photographer Mike MacLeod filmed the entire event. It happened at Bridge Bay Campground. The man walked with his grandson. They stayed over 100 yards away at first. Then the bison charged without warning.
The Yellowstone bison hooked the man with its left horn. It hit him right on the hip. The man flipped completely upside down. He landed hard on his side. Pain hit his hips and landing leg hard. No blood showed outside. Grandson ran free, unharmed. Yellowstone EMS arrived fast. They took over care right away.

Yellowstone Bison Attack Leaves Tourist With Serious Injuries

Mike MacLeod described the Yellowstone bison as angry. It charged cars and people earlier. The animal looked agitated the whole time. MacLeod yelled and ran at it. He drew the bison away successfully. Bystanders helped too. They yelled warnings and held the victim. One person called 911 from a car.
“I was just trying to get some dramatic footage of that bison having a fit,” he told Cowboy State Daily. “It’s changed my idea of what to expect from these guys at this time of year, because I would not have predicted that happening.”
This marks the second Yellowstone bison incident in 2026. A 12-year-old got hurt on June 26. That case happened near Mud Volcano. Bull bison enter rut from June to September. They grow aggressive and full of energy. They fight for dominance then. This Yellowstone bison targeted the pair anyway. They followed distance rules carefully. Park rules demand a 25-yard minimum. The pair kept farther apart at first.
Why Yellowstone Bison Remain Extremely Dangerous to Visitors

Yellowstone bison injure more people than any other animal. They look calm but act unpredictably. Visitors often get too close for photos. This pair did everything right, yet still suffered. The grandson worried it was his fault. Video proves he did nothing wrong. MacLeod confirmed that clearly. The victim remains in significant pain. Grandson says he is not out of the woods yet.
Park Service has released no official statement. Campers pulled security after the toss. They blocked the bison from returning. Kids scattered during the first charge. Everyone stayed back after that. Similar animal attacks appear elsewhere too.
