Kyrie Irving has fully recovered from a torn ACL in his left knee and is expected to suit up for the Dallas Mavericks next season.
However, how he’ll fit into a group that isn’t expected to make the playoffs remains to be seen. At 34 years old, he’s arguably at the end of his prime as an athlete. Coming off a brutal injury at this stage of his career doesn’t help his case, either.
Should he stick with the rebuilding Mavericks, or should he politely ask out like what Klay Thompson did? If he were to ask out, it’s guaranteed that he’ll be a coveted player for multiple contenders.
Kyrie Irving Becomes A Raptor In This Wild Trade Proposal
As his window to compete for a championship slowly winds down, Irving looks a bit out of place in Dallas. The team may become a surprise team in the West, but a championship may not be feasible – at least next year anyway.
Interestingly, a trade proposal coming from Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley is quickly making noise on social media. It was suggested that there’s a path for Kyrie Irving to land in a Raptors jersey should Dallas open its lines for a deal.
Dallas receives: Immanuel Quickley, Ja’Kobe Walter, 2028 first-round pick (top-five protected)
Toronto receives: Kyrie Irving
Before shrugging off this trade proposal from Buckley, it’s important to note that he factored in Kawhi Leonard’s arrival in Toronto, should that trade push through before the season starts.
The NBA has yet to fully approve the Clippers-Raptors deal centered on Kawhi. The investigation into off-court deals involving Leonard is still ongoing.
But imagine if it pushes through. Kyrie Irving, Kawhi Leonard, and Scottie Barnes on the same team? That’s a top squad in the East, for sure.
Mavs Want To See Kyrie Play With Cooper Flagg
Due to sitting out last season, Irving never had the chance to play alongside Cooper Flagg. Dallas wants to see what the duo can bring to the court next season before making any drastic moves.
A Mavericks front office member said, “He keeps getting put in all kinds of rumors, but we’re not looking to move Kyrie and Kyrie isn’t looking to be moved either. We didn’t get to see him with Cooper (Flagg) last year, but we’re very excited to see that pairing this year.”
Whether that pairing can bring them success, that’s a conversation for another day. But should they try to trade Kyrie to the open market, expect multiple teams to be interested, including the Raptors.
