6 NFL Coaches Are Already On The Hot Seat After Week 1
Week 1 did not wait to turn up the heat. Matt Johnson of Sportsnaut ranked six NFL coaches already feeling it. Nobody is getting fired this week, but the list still looks ugly.
Matt Johnson put Todd Bowles first. Tampa fell behind 21-3 against Cincinnati. The Buccaneers trailed 27-10 in the third quarter before a late rally still ended in a six-point loss. Bowles is 2-8 since last year’s Week 9 bye.
Todd Monken landed second. Cleveland lost 34-10 to Jacksonville while Deshaun Watson took five sacks and threw a pick. After the watching the tape, Monken said there were “really good things on film.” Asked if players back Watson, he said, “they don’t have a choice. This isn’t a debate.” That line will follow him. Tank talk already hit Cleveland after one Sunday.
Which NFL Coaches Moved Up The List Fast
Dan Quinn sits third. Washington lost 24-22 to Philadelphia. His record is 2-11 since week 6 of last season. The defense still looks stuck and every loss pushes Quinn closer towards the door.
Shane Steichen is fourth. Indianapolis got blown out at home by the Baltimore Ravens. The Colts converted 30 percent on third down. They managed 251 yards and two turnovers on 12 drives. Chris Ballard’s contract ends after 2026 and four years without a playoff berth leaves little cover.
Aaron Glenn is fifth even after a win. The Jets beat Tennessee 23-10. Players backed him in the locker room. The schedule still offers Browns, Dolphins, Raiders and Cardinals games. The seat cooled a little, but the heat did not disappear.
Why These NFL Coaches Cannot Afford Another Slump
Matt LaFleur closes the six. Green Bay blew another late lead against Minnesota. The Packers have dropped four double-digit leads in 12 months. LaFleur took three points off the board in the fourth quarter. A fourth-and-1 failed, Minnesota scored and Green Bay collapsed. A January extension keeps him safer than the rest. The collapses still have his name on the hot seat.
Some of these names were on a 2026 firing watch from earlier this year. Week 1 just moved the clock forward. Baker Mayfield now hosts Cleveland in Week 2 and already issued a warning to his former team. That game will test two of these head coaches at once.
Bowles, Monken, Quinn, Steichen, Glenn and LaFleur all enter Week 2 with less room than they had last Saturday.
