The Los Angeles Sparks forward went out of a game on August 22. Officials gave her a Flagrant 2 after she threw an elbow at Connecticut Sun forward Raegan Beers. Hamby said Beers hit her in the stomach first.
Then the message arrived. On August 24, she put it on X. The post passed 9.6 million views. She asked one question: “Anyone know this number?”

Dearica Hamby Exposed the Text After Her Ejection
The screenshot showed a slur. It called her an animal. It said they should put her in a zoo, along with a monkey emoji sat under the line. Fans ran the number and tied it to a Rhode Island medical device firm. Acclaro Medical suspended the worker first. Then it fired him.
The company said it condemns racism, harassment, and hate speech. It said the remarks do not reflect its values. USA Today first confirmed the firing.
The WNBA backed Hamby in a statement.
“We are committed to holding anyone who engages in such abhorrent behavior accountable,” the league said.
It banned the person from all games and events.
This is not Hamby’s first fight off the floor. She already sued the Aces after her pregnancy and trade. The Sparks later used her as an Olympic 3×3 fill-in after Cameron Brink’s injury.
