Justin Fields Planning To Break One Bears Record Next Season
Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields has vowed he will break a longstanding team record in the coming season.
Fields, who had a much-improved year on many fronts last term, is keen on becoming the first Chicago QB to pass for 4,000 yards and wants to do so in 2023.
The Bears are the only NFL team who has never had a passer hit the 4,000-yard mark. Erik Kramer holds the franchise record of 3,838, which he set back in 1995. But Fields is looking to have the team join their league counterparts as he plans to become the first player in the Bears’ 102-year history to reach the number.
Asked whether he believes he can surpass 4,00 passing yards by CBS Sports’ Bryant McFadden, he declared it’s going to happen this season.
“I will,” he replied. “I plan on doing it this year, too.”
Fields was the No. 11 overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft and, as mentioned before, had a very positive campaign in 2022. He threw for a career-high 2,242 yards in 15 games last season and, while that’s still quite far from 4,000, the QB also ran for 1,143 yards.
He’s heading into next season with the best receiver unit he’s had in the NFL, with the team having added Chase Claypool before last year’s trade deadline. They also acquired D.J. Moore earlier in the offseason.
