Cris Collinsworth smirking

Cris Collinsworth is a man who does not mince many words.

The NBC Sports analyst and former Cincinnati Bengals receiver made some eyebrows rise when speaking on backup quarterbacks following a remark during Peacock’s broadcast Saturday night of the Buffalo Bills-Los Angeles Chargers NFL Week 16 game.

The Los Angeles Chargers have trotted Easton Stick on the field since the season-ending news on Justin Herbert. NBC’s Cris Collinsworth was trying to explain why backup quarterbacks may need some time to adjust but his reasoning was odd.

He said the players can sometimes be “fat” due to not getting a ton of reps in practice.

“When you’re the backup quarterback, you can go months without even taking a single play in practice,” Collinsworth said. “That’s the reason a lot of backup quarterbacks are fat. They don’t do anything.”

Social media was not happy:

Last night, Easton Stick was 23 of 33 for 215 yards and didn’t throw a touchdown pass Saturday in the Los Angeles Chargers’ 24-22 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

As Christmas approaches, the NFL playoff races are as wild and confusing as ever, but the Chargers will not have to worry about that since they are eliminated from the action.
