NFL fans are calling for the Detroit Lions to do something extraordinary for franchise icon Barry Sanders, in the event that the organization qualifies for its first ever Super Bowl.

Last Sunday, the Lions bested the Los Angeles Rams for the franchise’s first playoff win since 1991. Sanders, who carried the Lions on his back for a decade, only got to enjoy one postseason victory in his legendary career.

Many fans on X/Twitter are calling for Detroit to give Sanders a one-day contract for the chance to win a Super Bowl championship ring, should they manage to reach the big dance on Feb. 11 in Vegas.

Not only that, but some of them even want the 55-year-old Sanders to play a down:

In fact, there’s an online petition calling for the Lions to do exactly that: Sign Sanders and let him play a down in the Super Bowl:

The Lions will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Ford Field on Sunday, looking to advance to their first NFC Championship Game in 32 years.
