The upcoming season brings a rough time early for LeBron James. The 40-year-old superstar did not get a chance to play in the Los Angeles Lakers’ preseason games due to his ongoing injury issue. LeBron is currently dealing with sciatica, which will limit his early journey in the next season.

James’ offseason has had so much drama so far. His recent controversial advertisement teaser landed him in a lawsuit, which is something no one ever imagined. However, his injury concerns put his future in limbo ahead of the 2025-26 NBA season. Recently, an NBA analyst made bold “age-hitting” claims about the Lakers forward following his injury.

“This is one of the first signs of the age hitting… So I think it’s concerning in that regard… The difference with him is that when he does play, he’s still excellent,” NBA analyst Chris Broussard stated. However, several experts across the league believe this might be a possible ending in James’ career.

The Lakers expect to see their core member effective on the court. James’ veteran experience and strong leadership could boost the Lakers’ energy on the court and complement the new leader, Luka Doncic’s performance, to guide the team to the title.

James is still recovering from his injury, and people are wondering if he should retire soon. He missed a lot of games in the past few years, and his health status points to his aging as he nears his 40s.

However, James’ former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate Kendrick Perkins suspects James might end his career after this season. “This is three, maybe four straight years where LeBron has missed significant time,” Perkins said. “His body’s telling him, ‘I’ve been good to you. Now it’s time to be good to me.’ He’s achieved everything possible in the game. After this season, I think it’s time for him to walk away.”

James, however, did not make any major hints at his retirement. As long as he announces anything, fans will cherish his legacy in the league so far.
