Bo Bichette is going to be a free agent after the 2025 MLB season. The Toronto Blue Jays are too busy concentrating on winning the World Series, and Bichette is not their priority right now. The good news is that the shortstop is back in the starting rotation and he’s doing a fine job for the team.

Bichette has come at a crucial moment for the Blue Jays to help them against the Los Angeles Dodgers. At the same time, rumors of the slugger are already circulating, with top suitors ready to pursue him.

Toronto sealed the deal with Vladimir Guerrero Jr., but Bo Bichette is unlikely to receive a $500 million contract. As MLB insider Jim Bowden puts it, Bichette is a below-average defender at shortstop, and he could get way less for a long-term deal.

“(Bichette is) a below-average defender at shortstop … and several interested teams view him as an option for third base going forward. His prime years have just begun, and he’s one of the youngest free agents on the market, though he has dealt with several lower-body injuries the past couple of years,” Bowden wrote via the Athletic.

Jim Bowden further put a price tag on Bichette’s agency. The insider mentioned that Bichette’s free agency could reach around $189 million for seven years. Bowden’s price tag seems less for Bichette, especially for a long-term deal.

He also touched upon Bo Bichette’s knee injury. However, Bowden stated that there will be lots of top suitors for the shortstop.

“As long as teams have a clear sense of the health of his knee, Bichette will have plenty of suitors in free agency because he could be considered a fit as a shortstop, a third baseman, or a second baseman,” Bo Bichette said.

The Blue Jays are up against the Dodgers as they enter Game 3 of the World Series. The Dodgers rebounded and tied Game 2. Bichette will continue to play a crucial role for the team.
