Former World Series Winner Shares Surprising Fact on Nick Castellanos’ Outfield Errors
The Philadelphia Phillies want a reset. On December 29, that mission keeps running into one stubborn roadblock: Nick Castellanos. Philly has explored trade paths, even showing flexibility with salary, yet the market hasn’t moved.
Plus, it’s not just about money. Castellanos, whom the Yankees could also target, is owed $20 million in the final year of his deal, and the front office clearly wants off the ride. Still, the lack of suitors has sparked debate. Are the Phillies rushing this or reading the situation exactly right?
That’s where the warning came in. Speaking on Foul Territory, former World Series-winning catcher Erik Kratz pushed back on the rush to dump Nick Castellanos.
“You also want to look up on Baseball Reference how many errors Nick has in the outfield: zero. He’s one of two guys who shows up in the playoffs for the Phillies on a year-in and year-out basis. … Be careful everybody.”

But the numbers tell a harsher story. Nick Castellanos posted -11 DRS and -12 OAA in 2025, continuing a career-long trend of poor range. His bat hasn’t saved him either. A .694 OPS in 2025 and a career .660 postseason OPS don’t scream difference-maker. Add reported clubhouse tension with manager Rob Thomson, and the Phillies’ urgency makes all the more sense.
Nick Castellanos to the Toronto Blue Jays?
The Philadelphia Phillies are predicted to trade Nick Castellanos to the Toronto Blue Jays. That’s the latest projection from Marissa Myers of TWSN, reported on December 28, as the team’s offseason direction becomes clearer by the day.
The signal came after the Phillies signed Adolis García, a move that further squeezed Castellanos’ role and confirmed months of trade chatter. Philadelphia wants roster flexibility and relief from Castellanos’ contract, while Toronto’s searching for dependable lineup depth after a World Series run.
Per Myers’ prediction, the Blue Jays see Nick Castellanos as a DH-first solution who can still spot-start in the outfield. Despite defensive decline, the 33-year-old delivered 17 home runs and 72 RBI with a .250/.294/.400 slash line in 2025. For Toronto, the bat matters. For Philadelphia, though, the reset does.
